創業者クリスチャン・ディオール(Christian Dior)は、1905年、フランスのノルマンディ地方グランビルで裕福な実業家の家に生まれる。
ディオール死後の1957年、イヴ・サンローランが21歳の若さで主任デザイナーに抜擢。その後、1960年にマルク・ボアンが就任し、1989年までデザインを担当。
1989年にジャンフランコ フェレと引き継がれ、ディオール創立50周年の1996年より、ジョン・ガリアーノがデザイナーに就任。
メンズラインは、2000年、エディ・スリマンがディオール オムを立ち上げて、大きな反響を呼び、メンズファッションとしても影響力を発揮した。
2007年、ディオール オムの新デザイナーにクリスヴァンアッシュが就任。
2011年、ガリアーノを解雇。2012年、ラフ シモンズがアーティスティック・ディレクターに就任。
2016年春夏コレクションを最後にラフ シモンズが退任。その後はデザインチームがコレクションを手掛けている。
2016年、ヴァレンティノのクリエイティブ・ディレクターを退任したマリア・グラツィア・ キウリが、ウィメンズ オートクチュール、プレタポルテ、アクセサリーコレクションのアーティスティック・ディレクターに就任(2022年現在はクリエイティブ ディレクター)。
2018年、ディオール オムのアーティスティック ディレクターにキム・ジョーンズが就任。これに伴い、2019春夏コレクションより、メンズライン「ディオール オム(DIOR HOMME)」が、ブランド名を改め、ウィメンズラインとともに「ディオール(DIOR)」として生まれ変わることになった。
2021年、メゾン フランシス クルジャンのフランシス・クルジャンがパルファン・クリスチャン・ディオールのパフューム クリエイション ディレクターに就任。2006年よりディオール パフューマー クリエイターを務めてきたフランソワ・ドゥマシーの後任となる。
